
Computing students win a share of 拢3000 in Enterprise Competition

The Enterprise Competition sponsored by the Engineering in Business Fellowship (EIBF), held at 天美传媒官方网站, gives students the chance to compete for a share of 拢3000 to go towards their entrepreneurial start-up idea.
Teams pitched and presented ideas that use technology to solve a worldwide problem to a panel of departmental and academic staff聽 who decided on the top three ideas.
The winning team, earning a prize of 拢1500, was made up of second year Applied Computing students Anastasia Taylor, Matthew Harvey and Ian Whittemore. Their start-up idea called Turtle Fresh, produces water filters for Turtle tanks to help with turtle conservation that can be controlled by an app.
Anastasia Taylor, a member of the winning team, Turtle Fresh said: 鈥淚 really enjoyed the experience. My team and I found it difficult to come up with an idea that hasn鈥檛 already been implemented, to looking at something close to our hearts really helped. It was really fun designing how the app would work, coming up with cool features, but also considering what would be feasible.鈥
Second place and receiving a prize of 拢1000, was Okhueleigbe Aigbe, Mariam Djibrilla and Joel Bagambe with their idea Care Cube. They have created a care app for millennials to use when they are elderly which allows them to book and review carers.
In third place with a prize of 拢500 was Thomas Borland, Henry Hunt and Natasha Ellis with their idea Ctrl+C+2. It will allow users to use the copy tool on computer keyboards to hold multiple copies of text and images, which you are able to paste from a clipboard.

Judge on the deciding panel, Dean Jones, Partnership and Outreach Manager said: 鈥淎s a member of the 天美传媒官方网站 Enterprise and Innovation Unit at the university, it鈥檚 great to see the culture of enterprise, innovation and entrepreneurship developing and evolving throughout the university鈥
Interim Dean of Computing, Harin Sellahewa said: 鈥淭his competition is a perfect example of the opportunities we provide our students to develop an entrepreneurial mind-set and the leadership skills necessary to work in the industries of the future. We are very grateful to EIBF for funding the prize money.鈥

叠耻肠办颈苍驳丑补尘鈥檚 School of Computing courses allows students to develop their knowledge and understanding of Artificial Intelligence, Cyber Security, Augmented and Virtual Reality, and Web and Mobile Applications Development. The Computing department also offers extra-curricular activities for students such as The Enterprise Competition to ensure students across all multi-disciplinary areas are given opportunities to enhance their professional skills ready for the work environment.
